Ian Anderson: Remembering Glenn Cornick
Переглядів 308 тис.9 років тому
Several weeks before the Musical Storytellers: A Memorial for Glenn Cornick event, I had the opportunity to meet with Ian Anderson in Southern California before one of his shows to record a memorial tribute to my father. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly blown away by the kindness Ian exhibited allowing me to video tape him remembering my father. Ian and I were able to share nearly a...

Juvenile Bald Eagle - Ninilchik, Alaska
Переглядів 3,8 тис.11 років тому
This was my first shot that I was able to capture in Alaska. We set up camp in Ninilchik, Alaska for the night in between this river and the beach on the other side of the rocky bluff in the background. This was one of the larger juvenile eagles with a wing span of nearly eight feet
Didn't stop you from shitcanning him.
Glenn stuck it Out with Ian in the Hard Times putting together the Band ..Then when it was at it's Early Peak of Fame was Sacked by Ian on Aqualung Album..Cold Man ..Cold..love Ian but that was Cold Hearted
The music is always better when you can see a musician having fun with it the way that Glenn did. And the music they made was very good.
Even though i seen Tull perhaps 8 or 9 times i was never lucky enough to see them with Glenn Cornick . But i did see Glenn with Bob Welch and Paris when they warmed up for Nektar .
Somebody turn up the bass player, please? 😎🎸
i remember seeing Glen with his band Wild Turkey 50 years ago in my home town at Bletchley Youth Centre {now Milton Keynes) Battle Hymn was an excellent album. Glen always looked the part with his trademark head band, but above that ,he was an amazing bass player. Even though, back then, he was famous as a founder member of Jethro Tull, he took time to chat to us after the gig. RIP Glen
Nice to hear him speak warmly of glen. Shame hes not so nice to work with. It all feels very clinical when he talks about ex bandmates. As long as Ian gets what he wants then everyone else should be happy with it
Living in the Past is so recognizable by the bass line
A very nice tribute!
best bassist JT ever had
Glenn was one of the kindest people I ever had the pleasure of talking with. It started when I was collecting records still and had a question for him about the first misspelled Tull 45 and blossomed into him eventually being cool enough to write me on his experience with the Rock and roll circus. He didn't have to do that for me.He wanted to. I just read it after many years and it made me think of him. I saw your name Drew, and wanted to share that with you. God bless, and take care! Bruce M.
Hey Bruce, that is a common theme from people and something I observed growing up. Dad was always willing to talk and share stories with everyone at anytime. It was something that I really admired about him, and hopefully a trait that I carry on, even if I don’t have the raucous rock n roll stories like he did.
A brilliant bassist who is sorely missed.
Great story. Ian is an incredible storyteller just like his music and lyrics.
Lovely words.
Nice testimony... from the magician himself ! So good to hear...
Ian's accent has a very American-English tinge to it now....a far cry from the old days I will wager. What a great band Tull was! Never got to see them live but bought most of their records and heard reports from friends who saw them perform at one of the Chicago venues back in the early 1970's.
Ian lies when he says he was friends to the end. Glenn said otherwise many times. Glenn is the better man and really is the part or TULL you really hear. I think what happened was Glenn was an equal as for the showmanship on stage and Ian didn't like being equal or 2nd at times.. Maybe Ian can still learn from Glenn based on what he says here.
Let be honest here, sadly, at the end of his tenure with Tull, Glenn was treated very shabbily by Ian Anderson and Terry Ellis. I think Glenn was a huge loss to the band and the fans. I suspect he was too big a personality for Ian.
Morningside Edinburgh accent?
Glen was Tull as much as Ian in those Days..Ian resisted after they made it..Sad ..Glenn lived the Band
Great interview but I'm curious. Couldn't they have found a better location for the interview than the men's room? LOL
Clives drummer was unbelievable. Thick as a Brick album….. my god….
Errrr…. Why in a loo???
Park benches will never be the same
Jethro tull est un parfait groupe il ne faut pas oublier le guitariste Martin bar 🤞
Great player.
Glenn's bass playing on stand up was fantastic particularly Bouree and Back to the Family he just rips on that bass. I must have listened to Back to Family a thousand times listening to his bass and Martin Barres solo and the way the whole band builds it up just so good!
Glenn´s Bass lines were a big part of the character that made Jethro Tull Jethro Tull for me. He was able to blend Classical, Jazz and Folk elements with ease and made it such a powerful motor for the band. RIP Glenn and I forever keep that time in my heart and memory... JT forever!!!
Ian Anderson is so authentic. I have great admiration for him.
Was this about you then
Drummers are just simple souls? You arrogant prick! (And I'm not even a drummer.) I grew up with Tull, loved their music, bought their albums and thought Ian Anderson was the bees' knees. What a comedown to hear him denigrate fellow musicians who helped Tull get where they did, especially in such a smug way. Shame on you, sir!
One of the inspirational bassists of Rock. Thankful I got to see him with Tull twice.
I loved his playing …one of the iconic bassists of the era!
Cornick/ Glascock - Glascock/Cornick
i love the way he played the bass
I was always impressed by the bass lines Glenn played, he was obviously very skilled and solid, 'Stand Up' is my favorite Jethro Tull album and Glenn is all over this project, this is a very nice interview, and -it is great to hear about Glenn as a person. Cheers!
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. Glen was very inventive, but David Pegg was the most within the Tull line up.
That's as gracious as Ian gets
Great interview with Ian Anderson sharing these stories about kind Glen. Glen was a master of bass cords. Ian called himself a moody SOB at times but I guess that's the price for being a musical genius.
Its hard to fathom that Glenn took that gamble and bonded with Ian those first 3 yrs and was all in with Tull and was a cornerstone bassist in first 3 album's and really stood out on stage with his dipping and diving showmanship. That was Jethro Tull..that line up of Ian.. Glenn Clive, Martin and John Evan.Stand up Benefit and Living in the Past Glenn was big in Tull's sound.only to be really stabbed in the back by Ian telling Terry Ellis he had to go and not telling him face to face ..and why ? because he smoked a joint and gave a groupie his room key.. Not Cool
Nothing but good things to say about Glenn. Peace in heaven
Intersting
You booted him out hahaa
I love seeing Ian speak . He was a rock god once , like Clapton . Now he is just humble and wise and funny . In his 1970's work you will find the musings of some kind of psychedelic guru . A spiritual cousin of John Lennon and Jim Morrison .
You shafted him like others. Shame on you
A kind and hopeful eulogy. I consider Cornick the best of Tull's drummers. He flew about like no other; he had the space to in those earlier days; he was seminal in defining the sound, if not the trajectory, as no later bassist could.
Very influential to my bass playing.
"Glenn was a happy man". He wasn't very happy when you fired him.
Ian remembers Glenn as happy and himself as dark and moody. This is quite an understatement for one of the most subversive rock musicians of all time. Jethro Tull ruled the stage in their day. Rest in bass, Glenn.
So no mention of the airport sacking then? How convenient.
